Will you be voting for or against?

Do you know why you will be voting?

  • Will your Party vote to put/keep a party in government, or will you vote to put/keep a party out of government?
  • Will you be voting on an issue or policy?
  • Will your Electorate vote be for a person or a party?
  • Have you met the person?
  • Does news about your MP encourage you to vote for or against them?
  • Have you met your local MP?
  • Have you met a neighbouring MP?
  • Have you met any list MP local to you?

If you don't vote you deserve the government you get. Don't complain about it.

Unfortunately I can't vote, because I'm not a citizen, so despite paying taxes and having a vested interest in the governance I'm not allowed to voice my opinion.

I wouldn't mind so much but seeing and meeting people who don't vote through apathy. That an the fact my fiancée was allowed to vote in the UK despite only being on a working holiday.

What status do you need to vote here?

I thought it was odd that I was eligible to vote in the EU elections while I was on a working holiday. I chose not to exercise that right as I was due to leave a few months afterwards.

I'm glad it's not compulsory to vote. If someone really doesn't care, and their friends can't persuade them it makes a difference, then they shouldn't have to vote.

It would be nice to also have a "None of the above" option. At the last election I have the choice between a list of unknowns and an MP high on a party list. My electorate did not vote tactically.

Owen - you don't need to be a citizen, but you do need to have permanent residency and have been here for a year.

Supposedly we are the the most apathetic generation and the first in history that has not battled to vote (apart from you Owen ;)). How quickly humans take things for granted.

* I wont be voting based on the scandals that erupt int he next few months
* I will be voting based on past performance
* I think I have met the people I'm voting for - I have definitely listened to them speak.
* I think it shouldn't be compulsory to vote but I do think that to not vote is to insult all the people in the world for who the right is not a given. And I think the excuse that 'they are all as bad as each other' is ridiculous - the way to change is to have a politically active country.
