More about old friends

Categories: Background, Day to day

Last week I caught up with three old friends.

  • Matt at the bike to work day breakfast in Aotea Square. He later came to dinner on Sunday. I recall when I met him, at a dinner for the nz.reg.auckland.general Usenet crowd in mid-July 1998. I had come up to Auckland with work, and was due to move to Auckland two weeks after.
  • Deniese had one of her flying visits to Auckland. I originally met her on the plane from Auckland to Napier for Christmas one year. We clicked immediately.
  • Darren was my flatmate in Mt Albert the year before I bought my house. I hadn't seen much of him in the past year so catching up over lunch on Saturday was good. We met at ten-pin bowling. I joined the gay bowling group as a way of meeting people after I'd been in Auckland for a few months.

I had lunch with Deniese yesterday. One of the things she said to me was that I wear my heart on my sleeve. I wouldn't have it any other way; I spent too many years suppressing my feelings before I came out.
