{"id":176,"date":"2014-01-26T15:21:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-26T02:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shadowfoot.com\/recipe\/?p=176"},"modified":"2025-01-27T08:36:12","modified_gmt":"2025-01-26T19:36:12","slug":"easy-cheese-scones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shadowfoot.com\/recipe\/easy-cheese-scones\/","title":{"rendered":"Easy Cheese Scones"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The unusual thing about these scones is cheese is used instead of butter to provide the fat content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3 cups <a href=\"https:\/\/shadowfoot.com\/recipe\/substitutions\/flour-substitution\/#self-raising-flour\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/shadowfoot.com\/recipe\/substitutions\/flour-substitution\/#self-raising-flour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">self-raising flour<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00bd teaspoons baking powder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon salt <em>(more or less, depending on the saltiness of the cheese)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd-1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup grated cheddar cheese <em>(or similar)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1\u00be cup milk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional cheese for topping <em>(optional)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: The additional baking powder gives extra rise, which is beneficial to most scones. Use 4\u00bd teaspoons baking powder if you are using plain flour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>Tip: Skip the cayenne pepper if you intend to serve these with jam.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preheat oven to 200\u00b0C (400\u00b0F).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix in cheese.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add milk and mix using a knife. This should be a wet, sticky mixture. Use additional milk if necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn the mixture onto a floured surface and very lightly turn it a couple of times to shape it. You want to handle the dough as little as possible to prevent it from compressing.
