It seems that terms that allow an eight-year-old child to understand the severity of her condition are too complex for the church to understand.
A friend of mine has this gluten intolerance, so I’m aware of some of the issues. He’s lucky to have it in a mild form, but he’s still had to make sacrifices. Whenever I invite him to dinner or a party, I carefully check the ingredients of bottles, etc., and sometimes make things from scratch.
