2:40 pm: I’m early for my appointment with my doctor. I’m writing this on my organizer and will upload it when I get home.
Most of today has been early; I woke before my alarm and was out the door by 7:15. Driving at that time meant no traffic problems and parking was available near work.
Hopefully, I won’t be here too long. I need to go back to work afterwards, and I don’t want to have a late day.
3:03 pm: I’m now in the Radiology waiting room at Mercy Hospital. My doctor suspects a stress fracture* of my fourth metatarsal.
3:12 pm: X-rays are done. Just waiting for the report.
3:30 pm: It is a fracture, and not just a stress fracture, of the third metatarsal. Three to four more weeks of healing. No jumping, running, or rollerblading. Swimming and cycling are acceptable. The gentle motion of walking is good, if I ignore the pain and walk properly.
* A stress fracture is a hairline crack in the bone that develops because of repeated or prolonged forces against the bone.
