Wanderings in Virtu and Verity

Psycho Boss

I can’t find an online link to it, but I’ve been reading an article from Sunday, the supplement to the Sunday Star Times. (I didn’t buy it; my flatmate left it lying around.) The article is about the psycho boss. I had one of them, followed by the greatest boss I’ve ever had when I moved to Auckland. Then there’s my current job…

The psycho had my direct supervisor cowed, and he acted similarly. One day, while I was at work, my mother fell over in a supermarket not too far away. The supermarket staff called me, and I was able to walk the few blocks to get her. After taking her home, I returned to work in about 45 minutes. After I returned to work, I was called aside and told that while I had responsibilities to my mother, I also had responsibilities to work. I don’t think he was happy a few months earlier when I went home to help admit her to the hospital as the doctor ordered. She hated the ambulances. After she died, I felt like saying to him that he no longer had to worry about me needing to interrupt my work responsibilities.
