Rustic Apple Tart

Rustic Apple Tart

This Rustic Apple Tart is a delightful dessert that’s as easy to make as it is beautiful. With tender apples coated in cinnamon and sugar, nestled in a golden, flaky shortcrust pastry, it’s the perfect combination of simplicity and flavour.

The freeform style of this tart makes it effortlessly charming, while the hint of lemon zest adds a refreshing brightness. Serve it warm for a comforting treat that’s ideal for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • Sweet shortcrust pastry
  • Apples, peeled and sliced (I used canned)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons, plus 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

Method

  1. Prepare a baking tray with either baking parchment or lightly coat with vegetable cooking spray.
  2. Add lemon juice, cinnamon, and 2T sugar to apples and mix to coat apples.
  3. Place pastry on the prepared baking tray
  4. Mound the apples in the centre of the pastry.
  5. Sprinkle zest over apples.
  6. Fold up the edges of the pastry, making pleats, as necessary, around apples.
  7. Brush pastry with egg.
  8. Sprinkle the entire tart with the remaining sugar
  9. Bake at 190°C until the crust is golden brown, about 20 minutes.
